Congratulations to New York State - now that all can get married --

Hendrick Appel, hence the name,originally built the genoursly sized home for a tavern in 1765 Just outside of Albany, New York

The site of the first town meeting of Guilderland in 1803, the house is now on both the State and National Registers of Historic Places. Those six pillars, solarium and porches upstairs and down were added about 1910 by Calvin Osborne. In 1983 Laurie and Gerd Beckmann converted the home as a bed & breakfast and location for small events and weddings. In 1995 with the success of the weddings and events - The Gathering Space, designed by Laurie Beckmann, was built to move the events out of the historic home and still hold onto the privacy and atmosphere of country elegance as well as blend with the historic barns and home on the picturesque 36+ acres complete with stream for ceremonies, photos & just relaxing.

With family needs changing the bed & breakfast is now in two of the spacious second floor bedrooms that were originally the common sleeping rooms for the tavern.

It is gorgeous for corporate retreats - showers - birthdays and other events but one of the first buildings in the area designed first with brides in mind (you will see several additions to banquet halls in the area that have been added after our Gathering Space was built - Imitation is the greatest compliment)Laurie is now also teaching event planning at Lehman's College and working towards master planner accreditation with ABC.

an Appel Inn assistant is overseeing the day to make sure everything is running smoothly so you and your family can relax and enjoy being guests at your wedding. We are also the only venue whose wedding assistants are all Association of Bridal Consultants members. Laurie Beckmann, the owner, is working towards master accreditation which there are less than 60 in the world. Having your event hosted at The Appel Inn Gathering Space is getting a certified wedding planner included. The Appel Inn Gathering Space is perfect for your next corporate retreat, training seminar, annual directors meeting or special dinner.

You have complete privacy for the day -whether 8 or 80.

We can arrange full breakfast, lunch & cookie breaks. As budgets are getting a bit tighter it is giving you the sense of getting out of the office and heading to the country without the travel. Just 8 miles to the end of the Northway and exit 24 of the NY Thruway makes us very accessible and easy to attend. Have some guests traveling from the area - we have arrangements with local hotels for block room rates and complimentary shuttles.

Champagne Taste but not the Budget?

This economy is unfortunately stretching for everyone right now- here are a few ideas to help -Set your Priorities is it setting, bar, flowers, 200 guests everyone has different ideas of what they do not want to compromise - - think of off season and off date Thursday's save over 25% of the entire budget giving you the same event of a Saturday - those that wish to be there will be -One year I had over 10 Thursday weddings and everyone showed-Slash the list-start with the fantasy list and then slash - it truly is the only way to cut costs if you wish to stay with Saturday and high season -Focus on the guests that matter now - not those you have not seen in 10 years Have a signature drink that reflects you and your honeys taste and personality - not a full bar - cup cakes do not COST LESS - than wedding cake - they can cost more -- However - Consider a glamourously displayed 10" cake for formalities and then have a dessert station with ice cream sundaes, cheesecakes or your favorite desserts - I once had a bride that had several of her relatives bake cakes - It was wonderful -delicious and personal Consider Booking your wedding in a 3- 4 month window - this can be done and gets you some of the best pricing - if we still have dates available we can work with putting some great events together at a little less More ideas to come !

Unlike traditional banquet halls that offer you package ABC & D along with just one chef - you may love their location but not their food - or visa versa - Here we offer you a gorgeous location and a choice of 3 different and fabulous Chefs Instead of being offered 'what is on the menu' for what you can have - We will be asking what you would love to eat - what you are hoping to spend and then assisting you in your selection I had a bride visit last weekend - she was apologetic that her favorite foods are pasta and hamburgers - Our reaction wasNo Problem - what fun - it should be about the couples personalities and favorite foods - its all about what you love to eatBy working with our caterers you can create a selection ranging from casual barbecues to formal tuxedo servers five course meals offering filet mignon and flaming salad courses The main event is about what you would like to eat - and the great fun with caterers is that anything is possible We do keep to these three caterers at the moment - - Besides doing a great job - they include all china, silver, glassware and linen of your choiceThey are equipped to finish cook on location instead of trying to time your food in cambros carted around the capital district based on some time sheet - that often is not followed due to the lost guest - late ceremony etc - this way your food quality is maintained as high as possibleThey are fully insured and equipped to handle your bar any way that you would likeCall for a visit or a proposal ( after they have met with you and seems like it could be a match - you will be invited to a tasting - )Due to the rising cost in food and operating - there is now a small fee for tastings - often reimbursed once you have contracted with them.

Hello Laurie-

I know we thanked you the night of the reception, but we wanted to take time to write a special note of appreciation for everything you did to make our evening so memorable.

We were amazed at how beautiful the room looked in the candlelight. The tables looked wonderful with those beautiful centerpieces. You do really know how to "put it all together"! We got SO MANY compliments on our choice of venue......one guest commenting that "this was the best kept secret in Albany".

Joel and Chelsea and her parents really relaxed and had a great time --- and thought it was beautiful.

Thank you for all of the coordinating you did that evening..........not to mention all of the assistance you gave us in the 'planning' stages. We feel really blessed to have worked with you.... and as you can imagine --- we will highly recommend the Appel to anyone who asks! Thank you so much for the wonderful wedding! It was wonderful, even better than I could have imagined. You coordinated a top notch event. All of your recommended people (caterer, DJ, photographer, cake, florist) were amazing. I can tell you recommend them for a reason. You work well together and it showed on my wedding day. Upon coming back to work I got the "how did things go" question. My response every time was that if something didn't go as planned I didn't know about it. So thank you so much for that. In my eyes, it seemed to all come together as I envisioned. You have such a beautiful space. I received so many complements about it. The fireplace with the great mantle, the Christmas lights along the posts, the back porch where Ken and I could sneak away for a few quiet moments together were all great.
